Belfast launches NodeExplorer tour of the Titanic

Belfast City Council and the Northern Ireland Tourism Board have launched what is claimed as the world’s first interactive, multi-media digital tourism trail, according to an announcement by Belfast City Council. It’s about the Titanic.

The Titanic tour is centred around the UK Node Explorer, a portable, multimedia device that is wireless and uses GPS technology. It uses a high resolution, interactive display designed for use in bright sunlight. Each unit comes with headphones and braille buttons. Its rechargeable batteries last a full day. It is waterproof to 1m and drop resistance from 2m.

The device delivers a location-based rich media indoor and outdoor user experience.

Belfast wants to take visitors “back to the future” — to immerse themselves in the past while touring existing displays and facilities. The goal is to provide a truly memorable tourist experience. This is the first of several digital tours planned.

Roger A. Brooks Rule 16 “The Rule of Telling Stories” states that ‘Great stories make the campfire memorable.’ Does your destination just “show stuff” or does it tell a story? If you have a great story to tell expect your visitors to be there for hours.
