UNWTO and Microsoft to create “Windows on Africa” portal
Monday 17 July 2006 by Edward.
“Windows on Africa” is a new technology portal to be developed through co-operation of UNWTO (The United Nations World Tourism Organization) and Microsoft. The portal will span continent-wide to national and local levels. It is designed to link visitor centres, museums, and libraries and other tourist destinations. Ultimately, it will even provide real-time advice via PDA’s and mobile devices with destination specific data. Information will be aggregated so that the tourism industries can better respond to any catastrophes. Emphasis will be on data sharing and tourism.
